Nelumbo lutea is the Latin name for the American lotus. One of only two species of lotus (the other being the more familiar sacred lotus), they grow across North America, stretching from southern Canada to Florida. Fully developed flowers last only for three days; white-to-gold blooms and silvery green pads stretch up and out of the water.
Their tubers and seeds have been a good source for Native Americans for hundreds of years.

I perceive a lot of energy in this painting...although the titles speaks of calm!!
